Our whole-bean selection
Coffee is approximately 30% soluble when mixed in water. Although the optimal percentage of dissolvable solids you want in your cup sits around 22-25% and the rest, science and tastebuds have determined is not of value and actually degrades the flavor of your cup leaving a bitter taste. Therefore it is always necessary to match the grind size of your coffee beans to the preferred brewing method. For example, when using a french press, a more coarse grind similar to the texture of a coarse salt is preferred whereas an espresso requires coffee to be ground up very fine, similar to flour or powdered sugar.
Instructions
Coarsely ground coffee
French press does not require a paper filter, allowing more oils to pass into your cup, this creates a slightly more intense and bitter flavor along with a bigger body and mouthfeel.
Medium grind (Varies depending on machine)
Using a paper filter, more oils are withheld from the cup creating a more delicate and sophisticated flavor profile with a lighter mouthfeel similar to tea. Recommended ratio 16 grams of water per 1 gram of coffee 16:1
Fine grind
Coffee is put under extreme heat and pressure allowing a short extraction time leaving you with a concentrated coffee that is intense yet drinkable on its own but becomes well balanced when mixed with different ratios of steamed milk dependent upon one’s taste.
